Gidon R. Vardi, Ph.D a personal injury and construction expert witness in Los Angeles County contributes know how and time to help design a new bakery in Agoura Hills, California.
Following nearly nine months of site search, money raising, and other major business considerations the owners of Abby’s Millstone Baking Company chose to return to the familiar location at 5005 Kanan Rd. Agoura Hills, CA where their key employees were once known as Stoneground Bakery.
To assist them with the design, building department, and health department permit requirements they chose the Los Angeles County based Gidon R. Vardi, Ph.D, president of XL Services a division of AT Vardi, Inc. Dr. Vardi and the design studio of AVID Concepts prepared the design drawings based on the needs of the bakers and their customers
Foremost was the need to design and build a bakery that is safe. Dr. Vardi emphasized the need for job site safety during and after construction for the crew, employees and future customers. Allowing ample work space behind and in front of the sales counters and around the large baking equipment was necessary for both conventional and ADA safety requirements. Each area of the bakery was considered for its unique needs and together the working zones became a monolithic safe place for all.
Designing a safe place is only the first step in producing a culture of safety. The implementation of the many components needed to deal with day to day safety issues on the job can be often assisted with the knowledge and experience of a personal injury and construction expert such as Dr. Vardi. We found very instructive information on the subject on his web site: http://www.xlservicesca.com.
Abby’s Millstone Baking Company will feature many of the favorite baked goods their walk in and commercial clients came to love. In order to produce all of those delights, Dr. Vardi had to consider today’s codes affecting energy use, ADA requirements and the installation of the massive ovens needed for the potential of 24 hour operation. With a tight budget and a demanding completion schedule, plans, specifications, and health department approval were reached in an amazing five weeks. Building department approval is expected within a few days of this publication.
Construction schedule is a major challenge in the completion of this bakery. Every day not under construction means loss of revenue. The owners of the bakery anticipate completion of the project by mid October 2012. To assist with this challenging schedule Dr. Vardi was able to obtain a demolition permit while the remaining permits are being processed. This approach was possible through the experience of this expert witness and his ability to work with the local building officials who are equally interested in bringing back this beloved community bakery.
Personal injury and construction expert witnesses spend much of their time analyzing accidents and construction related defects. Who better than to help reduce those risks during the design stage of projects? Here we see the positive influence of the expert witness not only in reducing the risk for accidents and defects but also in expediting what might otherwise become a very long construction process.
